Human Capital Advisors has been retained to help identify and recruit a smart, talented and  motivated accounting professional to join a high-performing team based in Northern Virginia. Our Arlington based client is a dynamic software company led by a team of well-regarded and successful executives. As such they are seeking a motivated individual to join their close-knit team and take over leadership of the accounting and finance function, replacing the retiring CFO. Initially, the successful individual will be responsible for all accounting operations for the company, its parent company and related holding companies, taking on expanded responsibilities when the Current CFO takes planned retirement.   

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

  • Produce monthly stand-alone management financial statements for the organization and related entities.  Analysis of company results compared to budget and prior periods.
  • Produce quarterly consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP, and coordinate annual audits with complete footnotes and disclosures for the company and related entities.
  • Supervise, mentor, and work closely with a staff to ensure timely and accurate payroll and accounts payable processing, that all balance sheets accounts are reconciled and reviewed monthly, and that other work performed by the senior accountant for the company and its customers is timely and accurate.  Daily focus on maintaining cash accuracy and updates via Treasury portal(s) are critical.
  • Work closely with FP&A on the company’s annual budget and ongoing financial forecasts, and prepare other analysis as required. 
  • Assist in the recruiting and onboarding process for new employees, including executing background checks and interviews.
  • Administer and assist in the purchase of the company’s employee benefits plans, to include 401(k), medical, dental, life, LTD, vision, and flexible spending account.  Responsible for coordination with 3rd-party payroll provider for multi-jurisdictional employer tax compliance.
  • Assist with the annual purchase of the company’s liability, property and casualty insurance program, and ensure compliance and associated reporting is completed.
  • Ensure that the company and related entities are compliant with all required income and other tax filings; coordinate preparation of tax returns and provisions with outside tax advisers, and review all returns and provisions for accuracy and completeness.  Prepare local business license and business property tax filings.


Desired Qualifications:

 

  • Significant hands-on accounting and financial reporting experience, some of which may be in an audit capacity.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, and have familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks.
  • Solid knowledge of U. S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), internal control environments, and experience researching and applying GAAP to new or unusual situations.
  • Quantitative, logical, and analytical mindset; an ability to manage a series of complex, interrelated Excel workbooks.
